You’ve successfully made it through 5 or 6 dates. Let’s say 6 in this case. The most important check in here: how are you feeling? Do you feel anxious, not knowing which direction this could go? Or do you feel excited, and hopeful for the future? If it’s the former, you might already have the answer. If it’s the latter, keep reading.

After 6 dates, you’ve covered all of the small talk bases. You know where they’re from, how close they are with their family, how they feel about work, and a little bit about their friends. Now, it’s time to take things to a deeper level, while still keeping the momentum that you’ve already had going thus far. Here is a guideline of rules that will help you figure out what is next:

  1. Observe their behavior around sex. Now that you’re likely being intimate with one another, you can see what their “after care” is like. Are they thoughtful? Do they bring you a towel, clean up a mess, etc? Even though you are technically allowed to sleep over (or have them sleep over) after sex, I would still try to limit these sleepovers to weekends only.
